Book Review: Behind Her Eyes – Sarah Pinborough

Behind Her EyesBehind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

*POSSIBLE SPOILERS*

What’s the book about? Basically, a woman (Louise) meets a man in the bar (David). Both are drunk and they leave together, but before things get too sexual, he says he can’t and leaves. After the weekend, Louise returns to work only to find out that her new boss is no other than the man in the bar. He’s not only just her new boss…he’s her new MARRIED boss and was taking a tour of the office with his beautiful wife! Circumstances lead to Louise bumping (quite literally) into her boss’ wife (Adele) forming a friendship – unbeknownst to David. As weird as this seems, Louise isn’t doing this to be “stalkery,” she actually likes and values the friendship, as does Adele. While this friendship is blossoming, so is the relationship (emotional and sexual) between Louise and boss, David. As the book progresses, it takes some crazy and unexpected turns, involving lucid dreaming, a best friend at a mental health facility, and out-of-body experiences. (Really.) The ending is just too unexpected to risk spoiling for everyone. I personally think it is worth reading for the shocking ending alone!

After I finished the book, I literally felt like the entire book was a lie. Not necessarily in a bad way, but in a shocking way. I thought I knew the ending…and if the book had ended a chapter earlier, I would have been right, but that last chapter was literally one of the most shocking and unexpected finales to a book that I have ever read.

If you like murder, mystery, infidelity, with a little supernatural-esque twist, this book is definitely for you.
