I love board games! On top of that, I love board games that help teenagers explore how they would handle various situations so they can further their problem solving skills and their ability to discuss a wide range of topics. Did I mention I’m a mental health therapist that currently works with adolescents? Due to this, I’m always looking for activities to enhance therapeutic discussion and encourage my clients to share about a variety of topics during group therapy sessions. When I found out I would have a chance to review this game, I was pretty excited about it!
What comes with the game?
- Game Board
- Principle Cards
- Principle Stands (these are the game pieces that are moved around the board during the game)
- Dice
- Scenario Cards (in five different categories)
- Harvest Time Reward Cards
Each player picks which “Principle Stand” that they want to use during the game. They roll the dice when it is their turn and move the number of spots that the dice reads. When landing on a spot, the color on the board correlates with a colored “Scenario Card” category. They answer the question asked of them using the various principles on the “Principle Cards” and get rewarded for the answer with the “Harvest Time Reward Cards.” “Advice Time” can be used by the “accountant” (the player in charge of the “Harvest Time Reward Cards”) during the game to discuss the situation on the card if the player needs assistance answering the situation on the “Scenario Card.”
I think it is easy to see how this would be a beneficial game to utilize during group sessions with teenagers – it opens them up to discussing about various crisis situations before they are actually having to deal with the situation, which in turn enhances their ability to use problem solving skills to talk through a crisis. The hopes is that by increasing their ability to use problem solving skills, they will be able to extend this into their real life when dealing with problems.
Although I’m using it in a therapeutic setting, it would be a great game to have at home to enhance discussion with your own children as well! Not only are you helping them learn how to talk through crisis situations, you are showing them you will be available for them during these times when they need someone to discuss problems with!
Also, I would have definitely included more pictures, but the clients loved it so much that I left it at work for all the therapists to use in group sessions with their clients as well!
Think you would love this game as much as I would? If you have adolescents, I don’t see any reason that you shouldn’t have this game in your household! Would you like to win it, here’s your opportunity! Click here. Good luck!
The Verdict: Recommend! Fantastic game to use in therapeutic practice or at home with your own children!
